Which genres actually shine on a phone

Which genres actually shine on a phone

April 28, 2026 · Marta Kowalczyk

People sometimes ask why we review so many different genres when phones seem best at casual games. The honest answer is that some genres genuinely thrive on a touchscreen and others fight the format the whole way.

Casual and puzzle games are the obvious winners — short sessions, simple input, forgiving of interruptions. But turn-based RPGs and strategy games are quietly perfect too, because they don't need fast reflexes and reward the kind of thinking you can do in short bursts.

Racers and action games can be brilliant but demand good control design and often run hot. Slow adventures like the ones we love are almost a secret weapon: they're calm, beautiful, and easy on the battery.

The point isn't that one genre is better. It's that each one asks something different of your phone and your attention, and a good review should tell you which.
